Trichoderma
Trichoderma is a type of saprophytic fungi which inhibits the growth of plant pathogenic fungi. As it prevents the attacks from plant pathogenic micro-organisms during cultivation, Trichoderma is used in certain commercial fungicides. Trichoderma is, therefore, extremely beneficial fungi which naturally protects the growing medium from plant pathogens and causes no negative effect to the plant. Usually presence of Trichoderma is not visible to the human eye. Sometimes, if the conditions are correct e.g. when water condensates between the peat bail and the plastic wrapping under optimum temperatures, Trichoderma can be seen as white growth on the surface of peat (Picture 1).
